About Georges River Association
The Georges River Association (GRA) is a mutual aid organization established by residents living in the Georges River area. We provide assistance to residents in the area and serve as a bridge between residents and the local government. At the same time, the residents are organized to carry out various activities that are beneficial to their physical and mental health. We strive to build a platform for improved communication and to create a warm family environment for the local residents.
Since its inception in March 2019, GRA has established itself as a community hub to connect the local community. It has organized nearly a hundred community events to improve social cohesion, celebrate multiculturalism, and promote the interests of Georges River residents. These events regularly attract hundreds of local residents, many of them are from culturally and language diversified (CALD) backgrounds. Some of the events include:
Celebrated multiculturalism, held major festival celebrations for the community like the spring festival and mid-autumn festival
Organized dancing, singing and sports teams to improve the physical and mental health of the residents
Helped the local businesses to better communicate with the government
Fought against over-development in the local neighbourhood
Directly helped the police to take-down criminal gangs
Participated in the Clean Up Australia Day, Tree Planting Day, environment protection and other public welfare events
Organized volunteers and raised tens of thousands dollars for charitable causes in the Georges River area
Donated money and PPE to hospitals and the general public during Covid
